In our lives, Toltecs recognise 5 major areas of human endeavour. These fall under the broad headings of Education, Politics, Medicine, Science and Religion. More detail about each of these categories is provided below.
The principles of what is generally known as religion underlie and underpin the areas of Education, Politics, Medicine and Science, and provide a true basis for the relationships between, and the proper functioning of these areas.
We know that all the major religions were founded on the basis of there being only One Truth and One Life. Therefore, underlying all these areas of human endeavour are the principles that embody the One Truth, as expressed through the Universal Laws and especially as expressed through the interaction, interrelationship and interdependence of all of life.
For it is a fundamental truth that all of life is interactive, interrelated and interdependent, and so therefore are the 5 areas of human endeavour.
Religion in its true sense implies a journey back to the Self. Consequently, the principles of any religion should enable us to re-discover who and what we really are, as well as what our purpose or fate encompasses.
The fundamental basis of the Toltec teachings, and the implications of all that has been said so far, are that each and every individual is valuable beyond measure. What is also implied is that the actions of individuals can be far more powerful than people generally ever realise.
If this is the case with individuals, then how much more effective would be a group of people, working towards a common purpose, and living that purpose, as well as living the interrelationship of life?
So for Toltecs the future of the 5 areas of human endeavour - the future of our world - is not based in the world of today, where the endeavours are divorced from each other, and where governments are also divorced from their people, making the rules for the people, who sit passively by.
No! It is the world in which the individual is empowered, and chooses to make a difference, on his own, as well as through living the interelationship of life!
The reason why these principles, and the Toltec teachings, start with the empowerment of every individual, is because, through the interelationship of life, if one uplifts oneself, one also uplifts all those around one. Another way of saying this is to say that charity begins at home.
Toltecs believe that the two most important issues that need to be addressed in the world today are:
1/. Learning to think straight.
Learning to think straight starts with learning to ask the right questions, or learning to ask valid questions. Most of the conflicting views, opinions and suggestions as to the way forward are simply the result of totally muddled thinking.
We can never build a new world unless we learn to think straight.
2/. Connecting with the heart.
For Toltecs, the heart is synonymous with our inner being.
Our inner being is automatically at-one with life. Therefore, connecting with our inner being, or our heart, not only makes us at one with life too, but it also puts us in touch with our purpose, our creativity, and it in fact forms the very foundation of our life.
It should never be forgotten that the mind is a tool at the disposal of the heart, and NOT the other way round. The purpose of the mind is to work out the practicalities of what our heart is telling us.
All acts of genius have arisen from the heart and made practical through the instrumentation of the mind.
When the principles underlying all of life are recognised, understood and put into practice, then instead of being separate and sterile endeavours, without purpose or heart, and serving some undefined function, the 5 areas suddenly become filled with meaning and purpose, and they become the true means to advancing society.
Whatever field of activity you may be engaged in, if you have a passion for what you are doing, but yearn to put meaning and purpose into your work, if you would also like to learn how your efforts can relate to those around you, as well as to the greater whole, then we can help you.
Depending on your area of interest, we may also be able to put you in touch with other people, or groups, who share your interests and are working in the same field as you.
